EU President Ursula von der Leyen has called on European leaders to build a “modern, clean and healthy economy” but warned against “building an economy like yesterday.”
Addressing the European Parliament, he outlined a rehabilitation fund project that would help governments invest in a modern future.
He said: “If we have to increase the debt that our children will repay in the future, then at least we can use that money to improve the future, tackle climate change, the environment. Reduce the burden, not increase it.
“Once the coronavirus is gone, we should not go back to our old ways, we should not build an economy like yesterday,” he added. We must now boldly seize the opportunity to build a modern, clean and healthy economy that protects the jobs of our children. “
